CIAP of NJ - Committees

New Jersey Quality Initiative NJQI) The NJQI
is New Jersey's response to the National Quality Initiative
(NQI) established by the U.S. Department
of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration. CIAP
has played a seminal role in fostering a vision of NJQI
as a multi-agency, multi-modal model organization which
has received national recognition for innovation to achieve
quality. The mission of NJQI is "to promote implementation
of quality principals throughout New Jersey's transportation
industry through proactive leadership, communication,
partnering and quality initiatives".
The NJQI does its work through a matrix of Committees
and Task Forces under a Council which provides overall
policy and direction. The key action oriented body is
the Interagency Committee, which consists of Chief Engineers
and other senior executives from the following agencies
and associations:
Federal Highway Authority
New Jersey Department of Transportation
New Jersey Transit
Port Authority of New York and New Jersey
New Jersey Turnpike Authority
New Jersey Highway Authority
South Jersey Transportation Authority
Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission
County and Municipal Engineers
Consulting Engineers Council of New Jersey
NJQI Addresses Varied Issues
NJQI Committees and Task Forces address a variety of issues
relating to delivery of transportation infrastructure
projects throughout the State. Typical agency items include:
- Contractor Rating System
- Safety
- Traffic Control
- Prequalification
- Metrification
- CADD/GIS Standards
- Environmental Permits
- Bid Scheduling
- Innovation and New Technology
- Alternative Project Delivery Systems
Meetings of the Council and the Interagency
Committee are held quarterly. Task Groups meet at the
call of the Chair.
